Meet the Muslim DEP
Ashiana ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Project (ACP) is a dynamic community-based organisation. They deliver a wide range of advice and guidance, training, personal development and educational ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø to those facing a personal, social, welfare and employment challenges.
These have been running for over 20 years, initially in Sparkbrook and the more widely across East ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø.
The organisation encompasses the following projects:
- Advice Centre
- Women’s Wellbeing Hub
- employment, vocational education and training
- a range of community health programmes
As a Deep Engagement Partner, ACP will provide deeper insight into the attitudes, health beliefs and understanding of various Muslim communities around a range of health inequality issues. This will be done through a series of focus groups.
This will help improve understanding attitudes to and experiences of:
- mental health ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø
- community attitudes to vaccination programmes
- possible drivers of women’s reproductive health issues
- over-representation of some Muslim communities within the criminal justice system
ACP will also provide health related cultural awareness training to health professionals. This will help improve their engagement with Muslim communities.
This will include utilising health resources and assets that already exist within Islamic teachings and Muslim communities that can be utilised to improve community health outcomes.
ACP will also run two health coaching related pilots focusing on nutrition and active living to test out new approaches to community engagement. This is a one year programme that may be extended for a further two years.
Ashiana ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Project plan to deliver their first Health Inequality Project as a 10-part series of information sessions on a range of public health outcomes - such as mental health, women’s health, air quality, and more.
