Meet the complex disabilities, sight loss and blind DEP

Focus ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø is an independent local charity that strives to make lives better by creating opportunities for people with care and support needs, so that they feel empowered to live life to the full and unlock their potential.

Their Complex Needs Day Service team works with adults from 19 years old and over to deliver stimulating programmes of activities tailored to the needs of the individual.

They specialise in working with people with visual impairment and other complex needs - providing appropriate support so that each person can achieve their full potential.

They also provide a specially adapted supported living scheme providing 24-hour care. This supports adults living with sight loss and other disabilities to live independently.

Focus ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø became involved in the Deep Engagement Partner project following their work with the Health Inequalities Profile (HIP).

Their HIP project involved disseminating key pieces of information about the prevention of sight loss to communities who were more at risk of losing their sight.

The communities identified were South Asian and Black Caribbean, stroke survivors, and people living with learning disabilities and autism.

As a DEP, they will work with communities with a disability. This includes people living with sight loss or blindness, and people living with complex disabilities.

The dissemination of Public Health key information will be delivered through their outreach work delivering sight loss awareness training for professionals and other community groups. They will also include information around cultural intelligence within these sessions.

They have existing social groups and service user focus groups who will engage in discussions about the issues that affect them. The focus groups have already spoken of the barriers they face, and there are regular key themes.

For example, the focus groups tell us about their issues with accessing transport and mental health ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø, which could be vital when structuring our projects. They will inform the direction and potential solutions for them.

Focus ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø plan to deliver their first Health Inequality Project focused on Oral Health in the complex disabilities community.
