Meet the Caribbean DEP
Mindseye Development CIC was established in 2021 with a focus on promoting social mobility for Black African and Black Caribbean young people.
They take a holistic approach to supporting young people through mentoring, personal development and employability while also seeking to address factors that create barriers to social mobility. They have worked with the Public Health team and BSol ICS to address health inequalities impacting on young people.
Since then, they have supported in the co-production of the cultural intelligence framework and facilitated community involvement in designing ‘BUMP Ready?’. This included resources to improve Black women’s maternity experiences and outcomes.
They were one of the architects of BSol ICB’s hypertension project. It trained volunteers to administer blood pressure checks and distributed 1,400 blood pressure monitoring machines.
Their flagship project ‘Brothers Helping Brothers’ broke new ground in using sport to attract men to a venue where they would be able to access health checks for blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar levels and screening consultations for prostate cancer.
After a successful pilot, they aim to establish Brothers Helping Brothers as an annual event.
As DEP for Caribbean communities, they will continue to be responsive to community needs. They will keep listening and creating opportunities for community members to communicate directly with service designers, managers and decision makers.
They welcome opportunities to visit organisations across 番茄社区. This will help to explore how they can collaborate to reduce health inequalities for Caribbean communities and share lessons amongst varied communities of place or identity.
Mindseye Development CIC plan to deliver their first Health Inequality Project as a physical activity programme for older adults with a disability.
