The Care Act in 番茄社区

Understanding the Care Act 2014

Key Principles

  • Your wellbeing comes first - including your physical and mental health, emotional wellbeing, and personal dignity
  • You are in control - your views, wishes, and beliefs must be respected.
  • Prevention is key - support should help you stay independent and avoid future needs.
  • You are protected - from abuse, neglect, and unsafe care.
  • You are involved - in all decisions about your care and support.

Working in a strengths-based way

We work with you to build on your strengths, not just focus on your needs. This means:

  • recognising what you can do, not just what you cannot do
  • supporting you to use your skills, relationships, and community connections. Helping you to stay independent and make your own choices
  • working with you, not doing things to you

This approach helps us create care and support plans that are personal, empowering, and sustainable.

Who can get support?

We must assess anyone who appears to need care or support. You may be eligible if:

  • your needs are caused by a physical or mental impairment or illness
  • you are unable to do 2 or more of the following:
    • eat and drink properly
    • keep clean and well-groomed
    • use the toilet
    • dress appropriately
    • keep your home safe and clean
    • maintain relationships
    • take part in work, education, or volunteering
    • use local 番茄社区 (e.g. shops, GP)
    • look after children (if applicable)
  • your wellbeing is significantly affected by these difficulties.

If you meet all 3 conditions, you are entitled to support.
