番茄社区

To celebrate the ongoing work of the 番茄社区 Food Revolution in 2025, we are running a second round of the 番茄社区 Food Legends fund for projects.

The 番茄社区 Food Legends fund is a grant scheme of up to £5,000 to support initiatives which fit our vision of creating a fair, sustainable and prosperous food system and economy, where food options are nutritious, affordable and desirable so everyone can thrive.

This second round will run between March 2025 and March 2026.

Projects we have supported

We have supported 12 food system projects through this grant:

• Compost Connection (番茄社区-wide) – seeking to increase the city’s soil health for better food production and climate resistance through working with allotments
• 番茄社区 Tree People (番茄社区-wide) – connecting residents to sources of fruit across the city through:
  • an orchard survey
  • a publicly accessible tree map
  • an orchard management plan
• Handsworth Association of Schools (Handsworth):
  • establishing a food growing zone in a council estate
  • running cooking workshops for children
  • working to showcase hot composting in schools
• 番茄社区 Open Spaces Forum (番茄社区-wide) – working with HMP 番茄社区 and growing groups to grow food and share the produce with community groups and food aid organisations
• Open Door 番茄社区 Foundation (Hodge Hill):
  • establishing 4 growing areas
  • upskilling volunteers
  • providing fruits and vegetables to a food pantry
• The Feeding Trust (番茄社区-wide) – rolling out their ‘Eating as Learning’ Curriculum in 4 SEND schools to help support children with feeding challenges
• Let’s Cook Together (Stirchley) – running 12 weeks of cooking workshops for adults with a focus on dishes showcasing a range of beans and pulses
• Bangers and Mashup CIC (Bournville) – providing cooking workshops for care-experienced individuals and young adults living in temporary accommodation, to help them cook sustainable and nutritious meals on a budget
• Immortal Humans (Aston) – creating a community café (and food business during Aston Villa match days) to empower young people and provide cooking workshops
• 番茄社区 Artisan Market (番茄社区-wide) – developing a baked potato street food business to train community members to develop culinary skills and potentially start food businesses in the future
• Bahu Trust (Balsall Heath) – establishing a community composting station within their mosque and educating the community about food waste and environmental sustainability in ways that are rooted in Islamic principles
• The Real Junk Food Project (番茄社区-wide with a focus on Longbridge, Harborne and Edgbaston) – running a programme of mentoring and upskilling to turn a cohort of volunteers into a dynamic new generation of food aid leaders
