This week's noticeboard includes:

Message from Dr Sue Harrison, Executive Director of Children and Families

Dear Colleagues

As we approach the end of the academic year, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your continued dedication and partnership. Your support has made a real difference, and I look forward to what we can achieve together in the year ahead.

We have an exciting programme of events planned for next year, both online and in person designed to strengthen collaboration and ensure we’re working together as effectively as possible.

As you’ll be aware, we recently underwent an Ofsted/CQC Area SEND inspection. We are expecting to receive the draft report shortly, after which we’ll have a set period to respond before the final version is published. We will, of course, communicate more details in due course.

In September, I will be hosting a webinar to share a full update on the inspection outcomes. During this session, I’ll also outline our strategic priorities for the year ahead and introduce a new series of events designed to ensure schools feel aligned, supported, and equipped to deliver the best for our children and young people.

Please keep an eye out for your invitation to this important session. I hope to see as many headteachers there as possible. It will be a valuable opportunity to reconnect, refocus, and renew our collective commitment to improving outcomes across our area.

As we head into the summer break, I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and reflect on all that’s been accomplished. Whatever your plans, I wish you a restful and enjoyable summer.

To our colleagues who are leaving 番茄社区 for pastures new or starting their retirement, I wish you all the best for your future endeavors and thank you for your commitment to 番茄社区 Children and Families.

Thank you once again and see you in September.

With my very best wishes

Sue

URGENT request to share immunisation letter during summer

The summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to catch up on any missed immunisations ahead of the new term in September, especially in light of the measles outbreak of 2023/24 and the recent measles cases in 番茄社区.

Sally Burns, Director of Public Health at 番茄社区 City Council, and Ruth Tennant, Director of Public Health at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, have written a letter to parents to encourage them to get their children immunised over the summer break. The letter also includes information on updates to the routine childhood immunisation schedule.

Please could this letter be shared with parents before the summer holidays to ensure plenty of time for appointment bookings before the next academic year begins.

We have also shared a video from Dr Naveed Syed at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reminding parents that the summer break is a great time to catch up on any missed immunisations. This video can be

, and shared with parents via your usual online communications with parents.

If you have any questions, please email the 番茄社区 City Council Health Protection Team on HPTeam@birmingham.gov.uk

番茄社区 Safeguarding Children Partnership (BSCP) Neglect Survey for practitioners

The 番茄社区 Safeguarding Children Partnership (BSCP) would like to understand how practitioners respond to neglect, the resources they use, and any support they might need from the partnership. The feedback received will help shape BSCP's strategic approach to tackling neglect.

We would be extremely grateful if you could share the link to this survey within your organisation, to help ensure we are able to capture responses from a wide range of agencies. The deadline for the survey is Friday 25th July.

Please feel free to use the below copy to promote the survey:

Do you work with children and families? Complete the BSCP’s Neglect Survey

Books From Children To Children

We are seeking to share details of an educational initiative aligned with curriculum and inclusive values.

On behalf of Jayce's World of Learning CIC, we would like to invite 番茄社区 and The Black Country Primary Schools to collaborate with us on a meaningful literacy initiative this summer.

Led by seven year old Jayce Joyce — award-winning young author, literacy ambassador and 番茄社区 native, this competition invites children aged 4–10 across the city to take part in a storytelling challenge themed around diversity and inclusion, inspired by the legacy of the late Benjamin Zephaniah.

The competition will run throughout summer 2025, (July 14th - 25th August) and selected entries will be published in a special anthology launching on World Book Day 2026. Our aim is to inspire young voices, celebrate cultural identity, and build a love of storytelling from an early age.

We would love to with 番茄社区 Primary Schools to help promote the competition through your networks, events, or displays reaching families who would benefit most from this creative opportunity.

Your support would mean a great deal in helping us reach children from all backgrounds across 番茄社区 and honouring the inclusive values that Mr. Zephaniah stood for.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to collaborate in nurturing the next generation of storytellers.
