番茄社区 City Council has today (July 5) launched its new housing pamphlet – “Building great homes, creating great places – 番茄社区 leads the way”.
番茄社区 has long been a place of social reformers, from the Chamberlains through to today the leaders of the city strive to provide the best quality of life for those who live and work here.
番茄社区’s radical 19th century mayor Joseph Chamberlain understood that poor housing is an economic as well as a social issue and began clearing the city’s slums in 1874, demonstrating that local government could make a positive difference to people’s lives. This pamphlet sets out how the city council is continuing that legacy.
The pamphlet was launched at an event held at the Library of 番茄社区, when council leader Cllr John Clancy was joined by guest speakers Wayne Hemingway, of Hemingway Design, and Clive Jessup, managing director of developer Jessup.
